May 5, 2003 was more than just another birthday for "Shogun
Greg," everyone's favorite jeffthomas.com Japanese warrior king. During a
touching ceremony to become a naturalized US citizen, Greg traded his traditional military
head gear for an American baseball cap. He's pictured here mid-ceremony, revealing
decades of royal Japanese "hat head." To see what Greg looked like before
the ceremony, try clicking here.
Greg quickly discovers an excellent secondary use for large birthday
presentsthey can block my Dad from weaseling his way into Greg's valuable camera
time! Although not totally successful [you can see Dad's hair and right hand in the
second picture], Greg's ingenuity and self-glorification earn him an official
jeffthomas.com "thumbs up."
Greg finally allows Dad a little bit of face time in exchange for a
karaoke performance of Neil Sedaka's "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen."
Chris, Jim and Grace react to Dad's interpretation of the Sedaka classic.
Could it be that Jeff got a little bit of sun? Nah, he just looks
less-pasty-than-usual when pictured alongside "The Albino Bowler," another of
Greg's great new toys.
While the whole clan eventually warmed to her, I must admit being suspicious from the
start when Greg told us that we'd be meeting a new ladyfriend by the name of "Anne
Aconda."
A great time was had by all! Of course, not wanting the festive
day to go by without a life lesson, a responsible Mom lectures us on the dangers of van
aerial disease. [Actually, that's just a bonus picture of Mom with her great new
van.]
